Bryan Flangel has been a member of the
workers' compensation department at Katz, Friedman since 1999. He
represents a wide range of employees in such areas as printing, auto
industry, construction trades, as well as personal injury cases. Bryan
argued two important cases before the Illinois Appellate Court addressing
the issue of"prospective medical care." They resulted in case law
that compels an employer to provide written authorization for reasonable
and necessary medical treatment. Bryan speaks at labor union and organized
labor gatherings about worker's compensation and labor law issues.
He has also held leadership roles in the Illinois State Bar Association,
spending five years on the Section Council on Workers' Compensation.
Bryan earned his bachelor of arts in speech communications in 1989
from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and headed directly
to law school at Chicago-Kent College of Law. While a law student,
Bryan was a law clerk for the Honorable Harry G. Comerford, Office
of the Chief Judge, Circuit Court of Cook County. He also earned several
academic scholarships and numerous honors, including the Ramsey-Burke
Academic Scholarships. He made dean's list and was an associate editor
for The Kent Commentator. During that time he wrote and published
"Indirect Contempt Proceeding in Illinois: A Procedural Safeguard"
for the Illinois Bar Journal. He was admitted to the Illinois Bar
in 1992. |
