Katz, Friedman is proud that three of the firm's
lawyers have been designated Illinois Super Lawyers
for 2008. Stanley
Eisenstein, who concentrates his practice in
Labor and Employment law on behalf of unions and employees
and Richard
Johnson, who concentrates his workers' compensation
practice on behalf of injured employees, have again
been named Illinois Super Lawyers. This is the fourth
year in a row that Stanley and Richard have been recognized
by their peers for their professional achievements. Ron
Schwartz has also been named as an Illinois Super
Lawyer for 2008 in the category of Labor and Employment for the second time in a row.

Harold Katz is listed in the

On December 12, 2007, the Chicago Chapter of the Labor
and Employment Relations Association (LERA), the premier
professional society in labor law and labor relations,
presented its Distinguished Service Award to Harold
Katz, founding partner of this firm.
Judi Chartier has posted her favorite FMLA
regulations. Our firm provides a substantial amount
of legal services under the Family and Medical Leave
Act of 1993, commonly known as the FMLA.
David Barish was one of the guests
on the Illinois State Bar Association's cable television
show, "Illinois Law" on June 5, 2007. The show aired
on Chicago public access television's CAN TV, Channel
21 in the City of Chicago. David discussed Illinois
Workers' Compensation law and what an injured worker
should do when he or she is injured.
On May 28, 2007, Ron Schwartz appeared on the
live Canadian Television Network CTV Newsnet program
"The Verdict with Paula Todd" to discuss employment
law issues under United States law.
David has been appointed as Secretary of the Illinois
State Bar Association's Workers' Compensation Section
Council for the 2007/2008 fiscal year.
David Barish lectured about the claimant's perspective
in Illinois Workers' Compensation law at the Workers'
Compensation Forum on March 14, 2007. He also explained
about accidents arising out of and in the course of
one's employment.
Martha Garcia and Richard
Johnson submitted an amicus brief on behalf
of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association in Mahoney
v. Industrial Commission of Illinois and United Airlines,
No. 100239. On January 20, 2006, the Illinois Supreme
Court unanimously upheld the position advocated in the
amicus brief! Employees with employment contracts
that are created in Illinois have the right to apply
for workers' compensation benefits in Illinois. This
provides the maximum flexibility for injured workers
who have been employed in Illinois.
Phil Bareck wrote an article
published in the Summer 2007 Illinois Trial Journal
on "Jurisdiction in Illinois Workers' Compensation Cases:
The 2006 Mahoney Decision." Read this article on an

Warren Eagle has been teaching
Worker's Compensation Law at IIT Chicago-Kent College
of Law for more than 23 years.
On May 11, 2007, Phil Bareck was a speaker at an IICLE
continuing legal education seminar. His subject was
"Starting Points: Preparing the Workers' Compensation
Petition."
Ron Schwartz was a speaker at the June 2007 annual
National Employment Lawyers Association convention in
San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Stanley Eisentein spoke at the IICLE legal education
seminar entitled "Labor and Employment Law Short Course"
held February 22 and 23, 2007. He spoke on the topic
"Trends and Developments in Collective Bargaining" and
presented a paper.
Eisenstein spoke at the 22nd Annual Illinois Public
Sector Labor Relations Law Program in December 2006
at Chicago-Kent College of Law. He addressed the subject
of "Medical Records Confidentiality" and presented
a paper as part of the course materials.
On February 14, 2007, Ron Schwartz made a luncheon
presentation to the Labor and Employment Practice Committee
of the Chicago Bar Association. His subject was: "Mixed
Motive, a blessing or curse under Desert Palace,
Inc. v. Costas. Ron wrote an amicus
brief for this case in the U.S. Supreme Court.
Ron Schwartz attended the 7th Annual Taxpayers Against
Fraud Education Fund Conference in Washington, D.C.
in September 2007. Taxpayers Against Fraud assists whistleblowers
and their attorneys, and educates the public about the
benefits of the False Claims Act's qui tam provisions.
Schwartz was quoted in a November 30, 2005 article,
Drug Suppliers Face the Music in Illinois, regarding
enforcement of the Illinois False Claims Act in TheStreet.com.
